Why Victory? What makes them so special and why should you consider making a Victory motorcycle your next purchase? The very first Victory rolled out of production on July 4th, 1998. While that was a rather unique way of founding an all new line of revolutionary motorcycles, some people would think that still makes Victory a new kid on the block. That might seem to be true until you take a good look behind the scenes.
Well
for starters - did
you know that Victory
Motorcycles is a division of Polaris. That's right - the same Polaris that's
been around making all those great snowmobiles, Ranger's and ATV's for the
last 50 years. Each and every Victory Motorcycle is built with the same quality, the same
craftsmanship and the same American pride that has made the Polaris name what it
is in the world today.

When the Corporate leaders at Polaris set out to create a whole new line of American made motorcycles - they approached this challenge with 3 major goals in mind. The new Victories they were going to build were going to go faster , stop quicker and out handle any other V-Twin on the market. Period. No second best and no excuses.
They immediately set the very best engineers in the country to work to design and fabricate their dream. This project was pursued with the same dedication to research and attention to detail that has gone with every Polaris machine. No corners were cut and countless amounts of time, energy and research were spent to make sure that this "New" American motorcycle would never worry about playing second fiddle in any crowd.
| The Chassis |
Starting from "the ground up" so to speak the engineers decided on a double wishbone design for the frame. This would consist of 2 tubes for the backbone of the frame and 2 more tubes providing the down cradle. Doing this would create a solid platform to build on, with less flex in the steering neck and better handling characteristics in the finished product. It was decided early on to mount the engine solidly in the chassis. This would take away way the inherent flex in the frame caused by rubber mounting of the engine & transmission, once again always striving to creating a superior handling motorcycle in the end. Using a unique new "counter balance shaft" they were able to take away almost all vibration created by the solidly mounted engine - but still leave enough to let you realize you had 100cu. in. (1634 cc) of V- Twin power thumping beneath you! |
| Utilizing a primary gear drive designed to keep the power of the motorcycle well balanced under all types of acceleration, Victory continued to concentrate on creating a V-Twin that would rule the road like no previous bike had ever done before. Creating a low center of gravity was also high on the Victory list - a problem that seems to haunt many of the other V-Twins on the market today. On a Victory, the centerline of the crankshaft and flywheel are located below the centerline of the axles giving the bikes a very good feel and balance. Also the oil for the engine (5 qts) is located in the bottom of the engine (not way up high in a tank under the seat). This cured the "top heavy" feeling that some other bikes have and surprises most people when they first take the bike up off the kick-stand. One graceful sweeping curve is all it takes to convince most riders that this is a much better way to design and distribute weight! |
| To stop their new machine Victory sought out the best brake manufacturer in the world, Brembo Brakes and worked with them to design a brake system specifically made for these bikes. By using a 4 piston caliper design on the front and 2 piston on the rear, rest assured that not only can a Victory get you there quick - it can also stop when it arrives. |
| The Engine | |
| In the go category Victory developed its engine in house and once again started with a clean slate. The all new "Freedom Engine" is modern and reliable and was built to withstand not only years of dependable use - but produce more eye bulging power at the twist of the throttle than any Twin before it had ever had. | |
It starts with 100 cu in (1634 cc) of heart pumping power, using all forged crankshaft, rods, and pistons. This engine utilizes all the greatest benefits of the technology available today, so it does not have push rods or valve adjustments. This engine is an overhead cam, 4 valves per cylinder unit with self adjusting hydraulic lifters, roller rockers and hydraulic self-maintaining camshaft chain tensioners! Designing a motor like this assures years of reliable service while drastically reducing the amount of maintenance needed to keep it running smooth. |

| The cylinder heads also come performance ported for optimum flow and you will find no carburetors bolted on these beauties! This engine utilizes a tried and true fuel injection system which allows it to have great performance and drive-ability right from the moment you start it up to where the road ends! | |
| The end result? The smoothest, most powerful V-Twin on the market today - designed from scratch to outperform and outlast anything the competition could throw at it! One ride is all it will take to convince you that the New American Motorcycle is the real thing! | |
| And when it was finished what did they have? One of the most eye catching machines on the road today!
A real show stopper no matter where you ride and guaranteed to give you a
crowd of envious admirers at every stop. One
